Having a Bad (Holi)Day?
Feeling pressured to get your holiday groove on? Not exactly filled with the holiday spirit?
Bah humbug…here are a few ideas to escape those winter “blahs”.

Find Your Inner Ohm at Spirit List

Quiet the noise, and reconnect with your inner yogi. We love the new “SpiritList” website, created by one of our own Mommy Adventure Club moms, Dawn Smith-Camacho. Her site, pegged as a “Job Board for the Soul”, provides “a job board exclusively for Southern Californians passionate about health, well-being, spirituality, and the earth”. Check out the workshop she’s hosting with Deborah Eden Tull (who we’ve also featured in our newsletter, for her “How to Raise Healthy Kids in a Toxic World workshops). Their workshop, titled "LOVE WHO YOU ARE, LOVE WHAT YOU DO: Finding Balance, Bliss and Well-Being in Daily Life” takes place Tuesday December 16 at 7:30pm is perfect for moms! And, “This workshop will explore how to live your bliss by doing what brings you joy...Workshop will include writing, visualization and Q&A.”

See the Norton Simon

It's the one place I can go and always walk away feeling a little but dazzled.  World class art in an intimate setting, exotic East Asian art in a secluded downstairs exibit hall, gardens that wrap around stunning sculpture.

This museum is wonderful for children still in strollers and older kids…not so great for busy toddlers! It’s easily accessible by freeway, and close to Old Town Pasadena. Be sure to check out their family progra, 'Stories in the Afternoon'

Get Some Fresh Air

You won’t even know it’s winter…when you’re hiking in Los Angeles! Catch the new grass as it begins to emerge, and enjoy trails that are cooler and less dusty. Along the beach, tidepools are in full swing.

Our suggestion for a family friendly natureadventure? Franklin Canyon, with it’s nature center, small ponds, and smooth dirt and paved roads.  Franklin Canyon often hosts a special events for preschoolers. For more info about local hiking, visit the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy website.

Real Comfort Food
Phillipe’s, the venerable downtown institution, just celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary. Hey, Huell Howser told me about you…are you one of the “five people in L.A. who haven’t been to Philippes”? Come on…easy freeway and metro access, free parking. A fun family outing. (Warning…the food is served on trays, so don't be shy about asking for help!)

Banish Mommy Brain
Work those brain cells by visiting one of these “smart” destinations. Plus, a gold star for taking your kid on an educational field trip.

Griffith Observatory
Great for an impromptu afternoon outing or a place to go during the “Witching Hour”. Look through a powerful telescope at a “Public Star Party”, hosted the first weekend of every month.

Natural History Museum & California Science Center
These museums are next door to each other, but one is more than enough.  Both feature hand’s on exhibits for kids of all ages. A wonderful place to bring grandparents and older kids, too.

Do a Good Deed

We're sure you have a charity you already love to give to.  Since every dollar counts, why not send an extra $20 dollars instead of just buying more "stuff" for Aunt Mildred.
